Sandals, surfing and digging in the sand! A short sandals story.

Ok, this is a short sandals story about my problems with robbery on the beach. When I’m in Copacabana I always make my way to Arpoador beach to do some surfing (Arpoador lies right around the copacabana fort, before ipanema beach begins. Wave formation is good here which makes it a popular surfing spot.) As it’s not safe to leave anything at the beach, I only go wearing my bathing trunks and sandals. However, every time when it’s time to go home, my sandals are gone...

As this got annoying I started trying out different ways to counteract this. First I tried buying the ugliest, cheapest sandals I could find, orange ones. Only to find my self and my surf board walking the heated wavy pavement of copacabana barefoot again.

Next thing out, was trying to dig my sandals down in the sand at the beach. Surfing always brings me a bit off course and I end up exiting the waves in a different place than where I entered. I did mark the place with a small ice cream pin, but it must have gotten smacked over because after 10 minutes of digging there was no way I could find the right spot again!

Now, going there in january this year, I’m going to surf WEARING my orange sandals. See if any of you beach thieves can rob them now, ahahaha! Ops, got a little carried away there…

If anyone has a bad conscience about stealing my sandals or has some stories about Copacabana they like to share, don’t hesitate to send it to me on my feedback / contact page!
