Recreio beach,
Surf spot and stressless Rio Beach

Recreio beach, paradise for surfers and individuals who want the whole beach to them selves! (Many famous people frequent the Barra beaches).

Heading from Barra da Tijuca, for about 12 kilometres, till you reach Estrada do Pontal, and here you are on “Pioneers’ Playground” as locals call Recreio beach.

Recreiro dos Bandeirantes is the residential place of Recreiro. Apart from it, the beach and surrounding areas are rather virgin territory. The beach enchants you with its white sands shining like diamonds in the sun.

Unlike Copacabana or other well known and extremely crowded beaches in Janeiro, Recreiro beach has a lot to offer to the traveller seeking a peaceful place to lay his body in the sand or enjoy crystal clear waters.

This is also an interesting spot for surfing when the south winds are blowing. So if you take a trip to this region do not forget your surfboard at the hotel.

The far end of this long straight stretch, another 2 kilometers, now called Estrada do Pontal, is Recreio dos Bandeirantes.

The residential area of Recreiro is inland but the beach area is mostly undeveloped: an endless expanse of sugary white sand shining in the sun.

Here, on Recreiro beach you’ll surely enjoy a cool coco verde, green coconut water. This is a largely consumed beverage in tropical regions, but its lifetime is restricted to a couple of days due to enzyme presence.

It’s rare and awesome, do not miss it! Driving further on from Recreiro, you’ll reach Grumari beach, a long arch of reddish sands surrounded by wooden hills and lively green trees. This is the place mostly enjoyed by the locals and their families on week-ends, a nice spot to spend a couple of hours away from the city.

Not far from here, on Estrada do Grumari you’ll find a nice restaurant bearing the name of the place. They serve tasty dishes, good wines and you’ll surely enjoy the lively music, the breeze and the view.
