The opening of Copa cabana Palace Hotel in 1923 contributed to making Copacabana district an exotic and popular place for tourism and nightlife.
The 40’ies decade of Copacabana history saw the district evolve into a hip quarter with its nocturnal life divided between its two casinos, the Copacabana, belonging to the Copacabana Palace Hotel, and the Atlantic Casino, in the corner between Atlantic Avenue and the Street Francisco Otaviano. The Copacabana Palace, with its casino, continued to increase the fame and the internationalization of the district. The casinos all attracted personalities of the world until day 30 of April of 1946, when president Eurico Caspar Dutra banished the game from the country.

After the banishment of the casinos, the Atlantic Casino soon closed the doors, for not having a sustainable hotel business. The Copacabana Palace transformed the former casino space into shows and other tourist activities. At this time the nocturnal life of the city definitively had moved to Copacabana and the retailing had 793 establishments, while the population of the quarter arrived close to the 75,000 inhabitants. Copacabana, the little princess of the Sea, was eternalized in music of Adobe João, the Braguinha, and Alberto recorded Ribeiro and in 1946, for Dick Farney, becoming known in the world all, with hundreds of writings!
